We are well into the Christmas seaon, and for most of us, there's no longer any delusion that we'll have a calm, meditative holiday this year. The party going, gift shopping, goodie baking, card sending, and decoration hanging is in full swing, and with only 10 days until Christmas, the only thing left to do is try to survive.
This is one version of Christmas.
Another version still has all of the activity, but in the midst of it, we can remember Jesus and what His coming has to do with all of this madness. I like to call this version "Advent." Each day, I try to find a little meaning in this busiest month of the year by reading Bible verses, reciting prayers, and reflecting on what difference Jesus' comings make. I'd love to have you join me over on The Space Between on my web site. Today is the third Sunday of Advent.
I also just found a late-November USA Today article on the growing popularity of Advent. It also gives some historical/cultural perspective. Check it out if you have the chance.
And while you're at it, drink a cup of egg nog for me.
Actually, I'm going to go drink a cup for myself.
